| Mothers. They wipe our tears and our scraped knees. They mend our clothes and our hearts. They are our heroes and our guardian angels. Throughout their lives, they are always there for us, willing to help, comfort, or console us. They are our moms.
The passage of time may dim eyesight and memory but it doesn't dim our love for them. As they age, we want to provide them the same love and care they provided us for so many years. That's why when my mom suffered a stroke, I turned to the Ruth Byck Adult Day Care Center, a program of Senior Citizens, Inc. They offered me high quality, supervised care for my mother throughout the entire workday. The Ruth Byck Center has helped my mother regain old skills, make new friends, and make new memories. She is extraordinarily well taken care of and the routine of planned activities, nutritious meals and snacks, physical assistance, and emotional support have encouraged an already astonishing recovery.
My mother loves the Ruth Byck Center because of the caring, compassionate folks that work there. She enjoys seeing old friends and meeting new ones, going on field trips, visiting the beauty salon, and greeting the furry ambassadors from the pet therapy gang. I love the Center because it has enabled our family to remain intact after my mother's stroke. My husband and I can keep my mom at home with us and still meet our obligations of work and school throughout the day.
Unfortunately, hundreds of other families in our community are faced with a loved one's illness or disability each year. Stroke, Alzheimer's, and the normal infirmities of aging cross all social, ethnic, and economic lines and can force a family into despair. Senior Citizens, Inc. can help by offering care for our seniors, whether it's day care, home-delivered meals, transportation, or in-home support.
Sincerely,
Darlene Glemboski
